The Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CBK PAN), a founding unit of the GeoPlanet Doctoral School, offers the opportunity to pursue doctoral studies leading to a PhD degree in the following scientific disciplines:

- Astronomy

Recruitment to the GeoPlanet Doctoral School for the 2026/2027 academic year is conducted via a competition by the recruitment committee in cooperation with the scholarship committee.
Eligibility and Financial Support
- Requirements: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree (M.Sc.), Master of Engineering (M.Sc. Eng.), or an equivalent degree.
- Statutory Scholarship: Granted for four years at 3,570.50 PLN/month gross for the first two years, and 5,500.50 PLN/month gross following a positive mid-term evaluation.
- Research Scholarship: A scholarship of 5,000 PLN gross is awarded by the scholarship committee during the recruitment process.

- Scholarship Committee Meetings: June 17 – July 8, 2026.
- Qualification Interviews: July 13 – 22, 2026.
- Recruitment Results: July 27, 2026.
- Commencement of Education: October 1, 2026.

- Application form for admission, including consent for personal data processing and declarations of having read the Regulations of the doctoral school (valid from 1st October 2025) [PL][EN version]s and NCN regulations on awarding scientific scholarships in research projects funded by NCN. - Copy of the Master’s diploma or a certificate of completion (must be provided before education begins). Note: Candidates with foreign degrees are encouraged to use the NAWA Qualifier.
- Transcript of grades from first-cycle (Bachelor) and second-cycle (Master) studies.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) detailing educational and employment history. A CV template is available here.
- Cover letter describing scientific interests, achievements, publications, and motivation for joining the doctoral school. A cover letter template is available here.
- English language certificates or other documents confirming proficiency.
- At least one recommendation letter from a current scientific supervisor or other researcher.
Recruitment Process:
The process consists of two stages:
- Stage I – Documentation Assessment (0-9 points):
- Scientific achievements (grades, publications, patents, awards): 0-5 pts.
- Scientific and professional experience (conferences, projects, internships): 0-2 pts.
- Motivation and predisposition (cover letter and recommendation): 0-2 pts.
- Minimum 5 points required to qualify for Stage II.
- Stage II – Qualification Interview (0-10 points):
- Master-level knowledge in the chosen discipline: 0-3 pts.
- Presentation of previous research results: 0-3 pts.
- Motivation and predisposition regarding the chosen dissertation topic: 0-4 pts.
Note: Candidates who score a total of 10 points or fewer across the entire process will not be admitted.
Conditions of Study
Studies last four years and include lectures, seminars, and research under a supervisor’s guidance. Education may take place in CBK PAN offices in Warsaw, Wrocław, or Zielona Góra, depending on the supervisor’s location.
